![]() Nevertheless, in the convoluted reality of the movie that we're asked to accept, the mole, (code name: Marble) is Korchnoi. Red Sparrow was one of the very worst movies of 2018, nothing in it made a lick of sense. But, seeing as Dominika is constantly playing everybody, it just seemed like a real anti-climax to just have her kill Ivan instead of the real Marble and get away with it. I didn't read the book and I don't know how the movie relates to that. Is it an attempt of Nate to reconnect with her? After all, if Dominika and Ivan are similar, might she not take up his role? He does owe her his life because she saved him from the Russian skinner, revealing that while she really did want Ivan dead, she didn't sacrifice Nate. Dominika got what she wanted: Ivan is dead and her mother is safe. The phone call Dominika receives at the end still makes the ending ambiguous. Her framing of Dominika, whom he has a personal antipathy for (we repeatedly see him suggesting they should terminate her), has failed and she has proven to be much better than he is. Korchnoi seems uneasy at the honoration of Dominika. This means she can bypass Korchnoi, who had been trying to frame her with his fake revelation as Marble. Dominika insists on personally telling Zakharov instead of going through the chain of command.Nate does give kind of an evasive answer when she questions him about that. I don't think Dominika believes that the americans can get her mother out of Russia. This only works of course if the hospital is just a regular hospital, not a medical facility in the american embassy. Why would Korchnoi reveal himself so suddenly to Dominika? I interpreted this as him tricking her into believing he was the mole, so he could frame her.A couple of reasons I thought this made sense: ![]() I had been thinking so ever since Nate gets a message to meet Marble in Vienna, and Ivan mentions to Dominika that he is just passing by in Budapest on his way to Vienna. The way I read it, uncle Ivan was the real Marble. She then proceeds to become the hero Korchnoi told her she would be, having placed herself alongside him as a double agent instead of replacing him. The explanation that I found on the internet was that Korchnoi was the mole Marble and that Dominika gave up her uncle because of her hate towards him because he forced her into becoming a Sparrow. I just saw Red Sparrow and I thought I had the ending all figured out, but the people I saw the movie with and pretty much all articles I could find on the ending give a different explanation.
